Andrzej Stasiuk’s latest publication consists of four sketches in prose – works that are neither short stories nor pictures. Not particularly extensive, lacking in any clear plot, revolving around people that are not particularly sympathetic. In sum: there’s not a lot happening here.

Myśliwski Wins the 2012 Best Translated Book Award

The winning titles and translators of this year’s Best Translated Book Award were announced on May 4th at McNally Jackson Books as part of the PEN World Voices Festival. In fiction, Wiesław Myśliwski’s "Stone Upon Stone", translated from the Polish by Bill Johnston, took the top honor.

American "Nowolipie Street"

American bookshops will soon be receiving the English translation of Józef Hen's "Nowolipie Street". The book has been published by DL Books, and was translated by Krystyna Boron. The first positive reviews have already appeared in the local press. "Nowolipie Street" is the first book by Józef Hen to be translated into English.

Long-form journalism constitutes some of Poland's best contemporary writing, following the tradition of legendary journalist Ryszard Kapuscinski.
