Black Seasons

The Black Seasons is an unusual book for the prominent literary critic and theoretician Michal Glowinski. It describes his childhood experiences during the Second World War. Born into a Jewish family, Glowinski spent time in the Warsaw ghetto before being concealed by nuns. Primarily a personal memoir, The Black Seasons is also an attempt at an objective analysis of the horrors of Nazi-occupied Poland the psychological after-effects of those horrors. The book is nominated for the 1999 NIKE prize. Michal Glowinski (b. 1934), a professor at the Literary Research Institute of Polish Academy of Sciences and Letters, is the author of important studies of communist "newspeak" in Poland.
