Czesław Miłosz

Adventures of a Young Mind

Adventures of a Young Mind is a complete collection of his earliest texts, including literary criticism, essays, articles and columns published in the press, and also his fiction written in the years 1931 to 1939. Thus it includes pieces from the times when as a member of the avant garde group of poets “Żagary” he wrote angry texts, “like the young Zhdanov” (as he put it many years later), articles to do with the politics of the People’s Front, correspondence written from Paris to the Wilno newspapers, essays on the artist’s calling in troubled times, and also two novellas (these are a rarity, because Miłosz soon dropped this genre).
