Edward Redlinski

Hammer/Rage

Edward Redlinski's new novel of alternative history tells what would have happened if, instead of martial law being introduced on December 13, 1981, communist party hardliners had staged a successful putsch and introduced a reign of terror. The characters relive such events as the outbreak of the Polish Civil War, the bombing of the Palace of Culture in Warsaw, the Soviet intervention, and the loss by Poland of its western and northern territories. The action takes place in the autumn of 1998. The book is about contemporary events seen from the perspective of a world parallel to the one we live in. "A lampoon of Solidarity" (Gazeta Wyborcza)
