About the author
Excerpt
Dariusz Suska (born 1968) has one of the most distinctive, meaningful voices in modern Polish poetry. Like his previous collection, All Our Dear Ones Buried (2000), this book too reveals a fascination with man’s mortality, as well as his cruelty to other, weaker creatures. This dramatic theme, though not untypical for poetry, would be nothing very special if it weren’t for Suska’s pointed style. He writes in rhyming stanzas, but with a slightly irregular metre. Moreover, many of his poems are written from the perspective of a two-year-old child who is only just getting to know the world, which makes the way he plays with death even more striking.
