Olga Tokarczuk's first novel tells of the secret association of people who intend to find the Holy Book which God was supposed to have given Adam. The novel's action takes place in the seventeenth century in France and Spain. The plot framework is made up of the adventures in search of the Book. The journey is an allegory about a man helpless in the face of the mystery of existence, the history of human illusions and disappointments. The second edition of The Journey of the Book People was amended by the author.
