Rudzka's latest novel, The Palace of the Emperors, is the story of women spending the last years before the end of apartheid on a South African farm. It is the story of people born "under the same star that fated them to eternal drought and impermanence while illuminating their attachment to life. Life, which is a longing that has been taken away everywhere, even from the places that are longed for" (The Palace of the Emperors).
