Ida Fink

Traces

Writing about the fate of Jews during the last war, Ida Fink does not choose a vision of martyrdom but a silenced, exact account devoid of pathos. The works contained in the volume are traces of the life of the individuals murdered during the Holocaust. The author says of her strategy: It has to be a whisper. "The force of her work (...) is the unusual ability to describe the times of the Holocaust through detail, the small scale scenery of the provinces, the fate and psychology of the individual." (Marcin Piasecki, Gazeta Wyborcza)
