Every second poet between 20 and 40, if asked which of the poets of the older generation he valued the most would say Bohdan Zadura.
Actually, today Zadura is a first-magnitude star. Just about all of the young literary magazines have interviewed him, and his books are written about with invariable enthusiasm. But for many years he lived and worked in the shadow of his great peers, Stanisław Barańczak, Ryszard Krynicki, and Adam Zagajewski.
In this volume you will find 44 of Zadura’s juvenilia, which were written in the 60's They’re a fascinating read.
As you go through them you realise two things: that the young poet (just making his debut at the time) had a subject to write about, and secondly that he knew exactly how to do it. Incidentally, today both Barańczak and Zagajewski are trying to write in the way Zadura was writing in the 60's.
