I Don't Like Anybody but Myself

About the book I Don't Like Anybody but Myself

To be closer. To be for.
Watching carelessly the careful
Reflections of lights on the Vistula.
Swans float up. From which
Fairy-tale. How long ago. How

and over them a roof, low sky, day and night
JORGOS SEFERIS

I
Iced-up, snowed-in days
Grey, heavy mist
- further than a hundred metres
nothing to be seen, maybe further on
nothing exists?

II
The mountains wrapped in silence, the trees,
The currant and gooseberry bushes sifted
With sun pollen (has
the sun not turned
into a lump of glimmering mist?)

III
A wall of mist which
Lets pass no
Lights from the after all not
So distant other
Houses. Before whom has God
Closed this place?
- Before the Jehovah's Witnesses
- Before the chimneysweep (once
every
quarter)

- Before the postman
- Before the priest's Christmas visit
- Before the collectors (the
electricity man and the gas man) But
Before death, would he be able to
