Agnieszka KuciakRetardation After Emily Dickinson
I'm Nobody! Who are you?
Are you Nobody too?
Shall we write our names into a draft
of the world and into one poem together?
Perhaps you are the First Line
and I am your Rhyme?
But how are we to state our case
if we're Nobody and Nobody?
***
For W.
Maybe there's something left when we're not there?
Someone still stares at the world, and that stare
Hangs suspended like a dragonfly
Polishing the surface of the air.
That's when the shadow of a tree soaks in water, the tongue
Of a lake licks the shore, a path goes for a wander,
Vision dresses the wound between
sky and water, rippled with wrinkles and laughter.
Translated by Antonia Lloyd-Jones
