Huelle shortlisted for the Independent Foreign Fiction Prize

Paweł Huelle’s book, entitled Mercedes-Benz, is on the shortlist for the Independent Foreign Fiction Prize 2005, among ten other books. The prize, totalling £10,000 (to be split equally between author and translator), aims to honour a great work of fiction by a living author which has been translated into English from any other language and published in the United Kingdom in the last year.

26th Paris Book Fair

The Book Institute will take part, for the fourth time, in the 26 Paris Book Fair, 17-23 March. This year’s guest of honour is Francophonie (the term relating to the literatures of the French-speaking world). 40 French-writing authors, from the whole world, are invited.

Polish literature in Leipzig

The Book Institute hosts the Polish stand at the Leipzig Book Fair (Leipziger Buchmesse, 16-19 March), which is the most important spring meeting for the book and media industry. On the Polish stand the Book Institute will present books’ exhibitions (new titles – fall 2005 and spring 2006), the selection of books subsidized by the Translation Program ©Poland and the main exhibition about Polish fantasy and science-fiction literature. The visitors will also see about one hundred books of Stanisław Lem in translations into foreign languages.

Polish children’s books in Bologna

The Bologna Children’s Book Fair, 27-30 March, is the most important international event dedicated to the children’s publishing industry. 4 583 international professional trade representatives from 71 countries and 8 739 Italian ones take part in the 43rd edition of the Book Fair. This year’s guest of honor is Hungary.
