Jiři Gruša is the winner of the New Culture of New Europe prizeCzech writer and legendary oppositionist Jiři Gruša on September 6th is to receive the New Culture of New Europe award. The prize is a joint initiative of the Book Institute and the Eastern Institute, and it aims to honor artist from Central and Eastern Europe, who contributed to the popularization of the culture of the region.

13th Lviv Book FairThe Book Institute participates in the 13th Lviv Book Fair (14-17 September 2006), the most important book forum in Ukraine. At the Polish stand the Book Institute will present books published abroad with the support of the ©POLAND Translation Program, new books of the last year and the publications of the International Cultural Centre and the Institute of National Remembrance.

Frankfurt Book Fair 2006 This year the Frankfurt Book Fair will be held from 4 to 8 October. The more than 7,000 exhibitors from more than 100 countries will take part in the world's largest trade fair for books. This year's Guest of Honour is India with the motto "Today’s India". During the Book Fair the Peace Prize of the German Book Trade will be awarded. This year the Peace Prize is going to the German sociologist and Rector of the Wissenschaftskolleg, the German Institute for Advanced Study in Berlin, Wolf Lepenies.

Sample Translations ©POLANDThe new program of the Book Institute, SAMPLE TRANSLATIONS ©POLAND, starts January 1st 2007. The aim of the program, addressed to translators of Polish literature, is to promote Polish literature abroad through encouraging translators to present Polish books to foreign publishers.
