The China Shanghai International Children’s Book Fair has finished

Attending from Poland were: Tatarak Publishing – Zuzanna Gillert, Rights & Licensing by Magda Szpyrtko-Ankiewicz, and KaBooks – Literary Agency of Karolina Jaszecka. The participation of two representatives was financed by the Book Institute, while one was funded by the Polish Institute in Beijing.

During the fair, which took place from November 14 to 16, a series of panel discussions were held. One of them, titled ‘Bridging Worlds: Navigating Cultural Nuances in Children’s Publishing,’ featured Polish representative Karolina Jaszecka, a literary agent (KaBooks). The meeting turned into a discussion about the impact of foreign books on society. During the panel, moderator Carolina Ballester, executive director of IBBY, referred to the book ‘Maps’ by Aleksandra and Daniel Mizieliński, which had a tremendous response in China and served as a reference point. Similar illustrations to those created by the Mizielińskis were described as “in Polish style.”

At the Polish booth, showcasing the most interesting new Polish books for children and teenagers, translator Linyi Yao was present, responsible for translating the bestseller “The Amazing Adventures of Ten Socks” by Justyna Bednarek. It is worth noting that Katarzyna Walentynowicz was selected as a finalist in the Pinwheel Young Illustrators Competition 2025 for her works. As a result, her works were displayed at the public exhibition.

Works by Polish artists could also be seen at two other exhibitions. Four books were presented at the ‘Spotlight on New Books” exhibition ‘Dół’ by Artur Gębka, ‘Żaba’ by Anja Franczak, ‘Rysie’ Michał Figura and Aleksandra and Daniel Mizielińscy, ‘Rusałka’ by Kamila Król). Meanwhile, at the special exhibition ‘Comics: Exploring the World, One Bubble at a Time,’ the following books were on display – ‘Ostatni żubr’ by Tomasz Samojlik, ‘Wilki’ by Michał Figura and Aleksandra & Daniel Mizieliński, ‘Ryjówka przeznaczenia’ by Tomasz Samojlik, ‘Zamaskowana. Z pamiętnika autystki’ by Kasia Mazur, ‘Mika i Bulgot’ and ‘Mika i Chłodek’ by Berenika Kołomycka and Agata Loth-Ignaciuk.
