The Taipei International Book Exhibition has concluded

On Sunday, 8 February, the Taipei International Book Exhibition (TIBE), one of the largest trade fairs in Southeast Asia, came to an end. For the fifth time, the Book Institute, in cooperation with the Polish Office in Taipei, organized a Polish stand. The event was visited by 570,000 readers and featured around 500 exhibitors.

Events with Polish highlights drew great interest. Taiwanese readers met illustrator Joanna Bartosik, who took part in an author talk and also led children’s workshops based on the Taiwanese edition of the book series My Mom, My Dad (trans. Wei-Yun Lin, Taiwan Mac Educational, 2024). Visitors to the Polish stand could also learn more about our Nobel laureate Wisława Szymborska. A specially prepared book display, a discussion around Collected Poems (published by Horizon, 2025) translated into Traditional Chinese with translator Wei-Yun Lin, and other attractions organized by the translator invited readers to discover the Nobel laureate and her work. Both events attracted many attendees — the rooms were filled to capacity.

The Polish stand itself was also very popular. Readers eagerly spoke with translator Wei-Yun Lin-Górecka and took advantage of gadgets she prepared (stickers and stamps related to the Nobel laureate’s work). During Joanna Bartosik’s workshops, children and their parents made moving portraits of their loved ones.

The 34th edition of the Taipei International Book Exhibition also included a trade zone, featuring panels, discussions with industry professionals, and meetings with foreign publishers. Joanna Maciuk, a representative of Mięta publishing house, took part in a seminar for foreign publishers organized by TAICCA.

At the Polish stand we also presented selected publications from catalogs prepared by the Book Institute: New Books from Poland, New Books from Poland – Poetry, and Polish Books for Children and Young Adults. Visitors could also browse Polish titles available in Traditional Chinese.

The guest of honor at this year’s edition, which ended on Sunday, was Thailand.
