The twenty-sixth newsletter for translators of Polish literature

On 2 July in Krakow the 6th World Congress of Translators of Polish Literature will officially begin, during which we will host translators of domestic literature into foreign languages.

We are pleased to announce that the sixth edition of the World Congress of Translators of Polish Literature will take place from 2 to 4 July 2026 — it would be a great celebration of our literature and the Institute of Book’s most important initiative of the year.

With great sadness we have received the news of the death of Lajos Pálfalvi, a Hungarian literary historian, critic, translator of Polish literature, and the recipient of the Transatlantyk Award 2017.

We are pleased to announce that the Adam Wodnicki Award is awarded to Mateusz Kwaterko for his translation from French of André Baillon’s Szczypawka z ogrodu Luksemburskiego i inne prozy, published by Państwowy Instytut Wydawniczy.

The Polish Book Institute, the Polish Cultural Institute London (PCI London) and the Polish Cultural Institute New York (PCI New York) are delighted to announce that Ursula Phillips has been awarded the 2026 Found in Translation Award (FiTA) for her translation of Ice by Jacek Dukaj, which was published last year by Head of Zeus in the UK.

This is our most important programme promoting Polish literature worldwide, supporting the publication of Polish books in translations into foreign languages.
