Teatr

Teatr monthly is a guide to contemporary theatre, both mainstream and experimental. It runs articles about the key phenomena, events and figures on the theatre scene. Reviews of the current repertoires, interviews, essays, commentaries – its mission is to promote theatre culture in a professional and interesting manner.

The editors hand out prestigious awards: for best director (the Konrad Swinarski Award, since 1976) and best roles of the season (the Aleksander Zelwerowicz Award, since 1984). The Special Award, established in 2006 for the magazine’s sixty-year anniversary, is given for lifetime achievement or exceptional accomplishment in the theatre.

Teatr has come out regularly since 1946, making it the oldest culture magazine in Poland, alongside Twórczość. Since April 2025, Teatr has been available online at www.teatr-pismo.pl. It is released on paper in the form of a biannual, archiving all the materials previously released on the Internet. The editor-in-chief is Tomasz Plata.
