‘Czarne jeziora’ by Dorota Suwalska in Lithuanian

Lithuanian edition

A translation of Dorota Suwalska’s novel Czarne jeziora (“Black Lakes”) has been published in Lithuania. The publication of the translation by Gintarė Adomaitytė was supported by the Book Institute under the ©POLAND Translation Programme.

The book was published by the Gelmės publishing house.

Black Lakes is one of the most compelling Polish novels for young adults in recent years, in which a literarily gifted girl starts keeping a diary and searches for answers to the questions she is afraid to ask. Her relationship with her mother is increasingly tense. She is also getting along less and less well with her stepfather, whom she has always valued for his sense and composure. Things aren’t great at school either. Only at Literary Club meetings does Magda catch her breath. Among its quirky members, she feels most at home. On top of that, the tutor is a writer she adores. However, the need to confront her mother and face the truth that has been hidden for years is increasingly coming to the fore.
