Mateusz Kwaterko winner of the first Adam Wodnicki Award!

The Polish Book Institute, the Polish Cultural Institute London (PCI London) and the Polish Cultural Institute New York (PCI New York) are delighted to announce that Ursula Phillips has been awarded the 2026 Found in Translation Award (FiTA) for her translation of Ice by Jacek Dukaj, which was published last year by Head of Zeus in the UK.

This is our most important programme promoting Polish literature worldwide, supporting the publication of Polish books in translations into foreign languages.

The Transatlantyk Award is presented yearly by the Book Institute to an outstanding ambassador of Polish literature abroad. The presence of Polish writers in the world is contingent upon promoters of our literature in various countries. Without their passion and industry, the presence and success of Polish books across our borders would scarcely be possible.

The Polish Book Institute, the Polish Cultural Institute London and the Polish Cultural Institute New York are now accepting nominations for this year’s edition of the Found in Translation Award, honouring the best translation of Polish literature into English in 2025.

There are still just under two weeks to submit entries for the Adam Wodnicki Scholarship. The scholarship was established to honor Adam Wodnicki, an outstanding visual artist, translator of French literature, and writer. Its purpose is to recognize the best translation into Polish, published in book form.
