About program
BookStadium is a Book Institute project inspired by football. Its aim is to promote reading among children and young people. We have invited coaches who run football schools, professional footballers and the largest clubs in Poland, with whom we are making the case for the power of football stories with a literary kick.
We organise reading workshops, promotions and contests, we talk with young football fans about athletic values, drawing from bestselling books that portray the leading players. Using footballer biographies and interviews with football icons we help aspiring players discover the pleasures of reading.
Promoting reading among children and young adults through sport works, and brings quantifiable results – it helps young people gain knowledge and integrate, and provides plenty of joy. This is proven by the successes it has had in Great Britain, Germany, Sweden and Malta for years. Come read a game and find out yourself!
How does it work?
- We organise reading workshops for football schools. We join the coaches in discovering the values that shape the athletic spirit for young football fans. We look at books about the stars of football, with whom young players identify, to inspire them to read and make their dreams (in sports or otherwise) come true.
- From the football schools we enter the stadiums and hold meetings at the league games. In cooperation with the largest football clubs in Poland, we organise happenings for readers. We prepare events and competitions that prove reading can bring as much joy as a football in action. We believe that football thrills and cheering create the perfect conditions for stirring a passion for reading in sports fans.
- We encourage football school coaches to promote reading because we know they are authorities for young football fans, on and off the field. We’ve prepared scripts for workshops they can run in schools, helping them creatively convince young players that grabbing a book is another way to keep in shape. The scripts can be downloaded from the project web site. Bookmark ➡ Materials for downloading.
