WE READ HERE! - the programme is a series of activities designed to promote reading and is aimed at schools, libraries and NGOs, including educational programmes, promotion of contemporary Polish literature among young people, producing and publishing the Literary Atlas of Poland and running Reading Clubs. The programme is supplemented by the Four Seasons of the Book festival.
4 SEASONS OF THE BOOK FESTIVAL - the biggest Polish literary festival, which takes place in several Polish cities simultaneously. The festival has four parts: Poetry Season (February), POPLIT (April), Prose Season (October), and Crime Season (November). Foreign guests have included Jonathan Caroll, Eduardo Mendoza, Boris Akunin, Alexandra Marinina, Michel faber, V.S. Naipaul, Paul Lins and many others.
TRANSLATOR'S COLLEGIUM - the programme provides study visits for translators of Polish literature and is run jointly with the Jagiellonian University and the Villa Decius. During three- or one-month stays, the translators are provided with suitable conditions for their work and assistance with their translations. They also conduct some classes for students at the Jagiellonian University. Eight candidates are accepted each year, from March to May and from September to November.
TRANS-ATLANTYK PRIZE - the prize awarded by the Book Institute to outstanding ambassadors of Polish literature abroad. Its aim is to promote Polish literature on the world market and to provide a focal point for translators of Polish literature and its promoters (literary critics, scholars and organisers of cultural events). The prize is awarded annually and is worth € 10,000. The winner is chosen by a special committee including leading literary scholars, organisers of cultural events, translators and the head of the Book Institute.
FOUND IN TRANSLATION AWARD - the award given annually to the translator or translators of the best translation of a work of Polish literature into English that was published as a book in the preceding calendar year ... more
CHILDREN'S LITERATURE INFORMATION CENTRE - the Centre supports the dissemination of reading among the youngest in cooperation with children’s libraries and other institutions in Poland. Its main aim is to create databases and to provide information to researchers of children's literature, translators, publishers, teachers and students.
PUBLISHING PROGRAMME "NEW BOOKS FROM POLAND" - the Book Institute publishes a catalogue „New Books from Poland” in two languages, English and German. The catalogues, which come each spring and fall, present the most interesting books of the last six months.
SEMINARS FOR PUBLISHERS - the seminars are a new element of the information programme adressed to the foreign publishers. The aim of the seminars is to encourage the publishers to publish Polish books abroad.
NEW CULTURE OF NEW EUROPE PRIZE - the prize is awarded to people who promote culture from the Central and Eastern Europe outside of the region.
HOMINES URBANI - a joint project of the Book Institute and the Villa Decius Association that includes scholarships and residential programmes for writers, translators of literature and literary critics from Poland, the German-speaking countries and Eastern Europe (Ukraine and Belarus). |
