Krzysztof Nowak and Błażej Kurowski at the International Comic Festival in Brno

Brno, podpisy

From October 9 to 12, the 11th edition of the International Comic Festival Koma took place in Brno. Among the main guests were Polish authors Krzysztof Nowak and Błażej Kurowski, whose works were published in the Czech Republic by the Centrala publishing house.

Both authors participated in the meeting titled ‘Young Polish Sci-Fi Comics’ on the main stage of the festival on Saturday, October 11. The session was moderated and translated by Alžběta Knappová and Barbora Novotná. The Poles presented their Czech editions of comics: ‘Futuro Darko’ (translated by Barbora Novotná) and two parts of the trilogy ‘Stachanovec in Space’ (translated by Alžběta Knappová).

The festival featured openings of exhibitions for both comics, and the authors also signed books. Additionally, on Saturday evening, Krzysztof Nowak took part in a comic battle, where he competed in a duo with Czech author Daniel Tejnický against pairs of authors from France, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, and Switzerland.

The visit of Nowak and Kurowski to the Czech Republic was a success. Long lines formed for both authors during the autograph sessions, and the room was packed during the Saturday meeting.

The Book Institute supported the visit of the Polish authors in Brno as part of the Non Stop – Polish Literature Abroad program (more about the program can be found here).
