Translators’ Collegium: additional call for applications in 2026

The Book Institute announces an additional call for translator residencies in Kraków, organized under the Translators’ Collegium programme. The programme is aimed at translators of Polish literature into foreign languages who are working on a translation of a Polish literary work or are planning to start such a project. For years the Translator’s Collegium has supported translators of Polish literature by providing working conditions and opportunities to connect with the literary community in Poland.

Dates of residencies:

1-30 October 2026 – 1 place
1-30 November 2026 – 1 place
1-31 December 2026 – 3 places

The Book Institute provides:

accommodation in Kraków,
travel expenses covered according to the programme rules,
a per diem of PLN 100 gross for each day of the residency,
organisational and substantive support.

Who can apply?

Both experienced translators of Polish literature and those beginning their translation careers are invited to apply, provided they can present a concrete translation project related to Polish literature.

list of published translations,
recommendations (optional).

Application deadline: 9 September 2026.

Announcement of the first selection of publishers’ submissions to the ©POLAND Translation Programme in 2026

The results apply to publishing proposals submitted by the end of March 2026. In accordance with the regulations, priority was given to Scandinavian languages and Italian.

Tapani Kärkkäinen awarded with the Transatlantyk Award

On 3 July 2026, during a gala at the ICE Kraków Congress Centre, the laureate of the 22nd edition of the Transatlantyk Award, the most important award presented annually by The Book Institute to the ambassadors of Polish literature abroad, was announced. The award was given to Tapani Kärkkäinen, an outstanding translator of Polish literature into Finnish.

The 6th World Congress of Translators of Polish Literature has begun

Today in Kraków the 6th World Congress of Translators of Polish Literature was inaugurated. The event was opened by the Minister of Culture and National Heritage, Marta Cienskowska. At the opening, the Golden Medal “Gloria Artis – For Merits to Polish Culture” was awarded to the translator of Polish literature into English and its ambassador, Antonia Lloyd-Jones, and the poet, prose writer and translator Jacek Dehnel received the Bronze Medal “Gloria Artis – For Merits to Polish Culture” from the minister, who also delivered the master’s lecture.

The 6th World Congress of Translators of Polish Literature starts this Thursday

On 2 July in Krakow the 6th World Congress of Translators of Polish Literature will officially begin, during which we will host translators of domestic literature into foreign languages.

The newsletter is sent quarterly to translators of Polish literature around the world. It contains the most interesting new publishing releases from recent months that may attract the interest of foreign readers.
