Applications are now open for the 2027 Translators’ Collegium!
The Polish Book Institute is delighted to announce the call for applications for the 2027 Translators’ Collegium, a residency programme for translators of Polish literature. It is a unique opportunity for both experienced translators with an extensive body of work and those just starting out who wish to take part in the international exchange of literature.
Once again, we will also award the Anders Bodegård Fellowship, for a translator specialising in translating Polish literature into Swedish or French. The Translators’ Collegium supports work on translations of Polish books, fosters a community of translators, develops their professional skills and promotes Polish literature around the world.
The Translators’ Collegium is a place to work and meet for people from around the world, representing a range of languages and literary traditions. The programme encourages the exchange of experience, develops translation skills and helps bring Polish literature to readers worldwide.
During their residencies, translators have worked, among other projects, on:
- a Japanese translation of Null by Szczepan Twardoch (Ayano Shibata)
- an Italian translation of Stramerowie by Mikołaj Łoziński (Francesco Annicchiarico)
- an English translation of Zuzanna Ginczanka’s poetry (Mira Rosenthal)
- a Swedish translation of Białe noce by Urszula Honek (Thomas Håkanson)
- a Danish translation of Medaliony by Zofia Nałkowska (Judyta Preis and Jorgen Monrad)
- a Czech translation of Łakome by Małgorzata Lebda (Alžběta Knappová)
- an English translation of Mikrotyki by Paweł Sołtys (Eliza Marciniak)
- a German translation of Lód by Jacek Dukaj (Antje Ritter-Miller)
A stay in Kraków or Warsaw offers the chance to focus on translation in a supportive environment, build connections with Poland’s literary community and take part in cultural events.
