International Book Fair in Thessaloniki – report
The programme includes several special events. Today saw the premiere of Paweł Pawlak’s book, translated by Urszula Hopko, titled “Felcia, or Sketches with a Sneezing Beret,” published by Historical Quest with support from the Book Institute under the ©Poland Translation Programme. This warm and imaginative tale served as the basis for animations prepared for children and young people.
The programme also includes a meeting with Urszula Honek. The author will present her recently published Greek-language collection of stories “White Nights,” which was included on the prestigious International Booker Prize 2024 list. The book in Greek was issued by the Vakhikon publishing house in a translation by Natalia Skandali (also supported by the Book Institute). The meeting with the author and the translator is scheduled for Saturday, 9 May.
Afterward there will be a presentation of the publication titled “Greece, Albania, Poland. A Polish Engineer’s View on the Issue of Northern Epirus (1914–1916),” published in Greek by Roptron. The book is an interesting historical source, compiling Zygmunt Mineyko’s original correspondence sent to the newspaper Dziennik Polski as well as his personal handwritten notes. Translator Dr. Anastazja Chatzigiannidi will speak about it, and Prof. Dimitrios Stamatopoulos will provide broader historical context.
