New editions of the catalogues ‘New Books From Poland’ and ‘New Books from Poland. Poetry’ are setting off into the world!
These catalogues are intended for international publishers and present a selection of the best Polish books published over the past twelve months. This year, for the first time, the catalogue entries have been written by translators of Polish literature – people who are closer to the texts than anyone else. They also know best how to talk to publishers in their own countries and often prove to be the most effective advocates for publishing Polish works in translation.
The new editions feature the most awarded Polish books of the year, including Eliza Kącka’s autobiographical essay ‘Wczoraj byłaś zła na zielono’ (“Yesterday You Were Angry in Green”, winner of the double Nike Literary Award) and Andrzej Dybczak’s reportage ‘Las duchów’ (“Forest of Ghosts”, winner of the Ryszard Kapuściński Award and the Marek Nowakowski Award). The fiction section includes works by Dorota Masłowska, Marta Michalak, Weronika Murek, Jakub Nowak, Łukasz Orbitowski, Paweł Rzewuski, Bartosz Sadulski, Paweł Sołtys, and Szczepan Twardoch, as well as a crime novel by Weronika Mathia and a collection of weird fiction stories by Wojciech Gunia.
In the non-fiction section, alongside the aforementioned books by Dybczak and Kącka, readers will find works by Ziemowit Szczerek, Joanna Wilengowska, Artur Domosławski, Łukasz Galusek and Michał Wiśniewski, Weronika Kostyrko, and Wojciech Śmieja. The catalogue concludes with outstanding essays by Kora Tea Kowalska, Maria Poprzęcka, and Katarzyna Sobczuk.
The ‘New Books from Poland 2025. Poetry’ catalogue presents works by thirteen poets: Anna Adamowicz, Maria Cyranowicz, Anouk Herman, Piotr Janicki, Adam Kaczanowski, Kasper Pfeifer, Agata Puwalska, Robert Rybicki, Jakub Sęczyk, Krzysztof Siwczyk, Przemysław Suchanecki, and Antonina Tosiek. As Grzegorz Jankowicz, director of the Polish Book Institute, writes in the foreword: “These authors move between the collective that both appropriates and is appropriated, between the alienated individual and the person fighting for a space of dignified existence. Nothing in these books is obvious.” The catalogue includes works by poets who have already been published abroad, as well as award-winning volumes such as ‘Silesian Gothic’ by Anouk Herman (Gdynia Literary Award) and ‘żertwy’ by Antonina Tosiek (Wisława Szymborska Award).
Both ‘New Books From Poland 2025’ and ‘New Books from Poland 2025. Poetry’ aim to acquaint foreign publishers with the rich spectrum of Polish prose and poetry published in the past year. From the submissions sent in by Polish publishers, a specially appointed jury selected the featured titles. The recommending experts for New Books from Poland 2025 were Przemysław Czapliński, Bernadetta Darska, Piotr Kofta, Zofia Król, and Anna Nasiłowska. The poetry selections for New Books from Poland 2025. Poetry were proposed by Anna Kałuża, Zuzanna Sala, Jakub Skurtys, and Piotr Śliwiński. Both panels worked under the supervision of the Polish Book Institute. The guiding principles were to maintain balance among publishing houses and to ensure the highest literary quality of the selected works.
