The Book Forum, a book fair and literary festival, returned to Lviv. In-person events, the participation of international guests, and publishers’ stands filled with books restored the long-awaited spirit of the event. Russian attacks cast a shadow over the fair though.

Polish writers participated in the online literary section. The Book Institute co-organized two panels: on Sunday, Olga Tokarczuk spoke with Sofia Andrukhovych about the new literary energy that our difficult era is fueling with contemporary prose. The event was moderated by Marcin Gaczkowski, translator of Ukrainian literature. Journalist and writer Ziemowit Szczerek participated in Friday’s discussion on the phenomenon of Lviv in history, culture, and literature.

The Book Forum was not spared the threat of war: on the night of October 4-5, the Russians launched a missile attack on Lviv and launched a large number of drones. People died in the city and residential and industrial buildings were destroyed.
