The 77th Frankfurt Book Fair, the world’s most important industry event, has come to an end. Poland was a guest at the Frankfurt event for the twenty-fifth time.

The Frankfurt Book Fair has both an industry and festival character, hosting over 4,000 exhibitors from around the world each year. The first two days of the Frankfurter Buchmesse are exclusively for representatives of the publishing industry, while the fair opens to readers on the weekend.

This year, we premiered our 200 square meter booth designed by the Architectural and Jewelry Workshop Brokat from Katowice. Most of the materials used, including furniture, come from local manufacturers, creating a cozy space that facilitates comfortable communication. We showcased a selection of the best Polish books published in the last twelve months, as well as books published by Polish publishers participating in this year’s fair. For foreign publishers and translators, we prepared the catalouges ‘New Books from Poland 2025’ and ‘New Books from Poland 2025. Poetry.’

For the first time, we asked translators of Polish literature to prepare descriptions of books for the catalouge. They are ambassadors of Polish literature, well-acquainted with their audience.

As every year in Frankfurt, we informed about the activities of the Institute, including the flagship ©Poland Translation Programme, aimed at foreign and Polish publishers of translated Polish books.

Additionally, on Wednesday afternoon at our booth, we hosted participants of the Special Programme for publishers from Ukraine and neighbouring countries. The programme was a training initiative designed to foster networking. It is directed towards publishers, editors, and literary agents from Armenia, Bulgaria, the Czech Republic, Georgia, Hungary, Kazakhstan, Moldova, Poland, Romania, Slovakia, and Ukraine. This year, for the first time, our booth also featured the Buchbund fair bookstore, where the audience could purchase books by Polish authors in both Polish and German.

At the collective Polish booth, 48 exhibitors presented their offerings.

This year’s edition of the Frankfurt Book Fair was also an important anniversary for the Book Institute—twenty-five years ago, Poland was the guest of honor in Frankfurt. The Polish presentation in Frankfurt proved to be a great success. It led to the publication of works by many significant Polish creators abroad and laid the foundations for systematic efforts to promote Polish authors.

The guest of honor for this year’s edition was the Philippines.
