Today the International Book Fair in Turin, the Salone Internazionale del Libro di Torino, begins. This is the thirty-eighth edition of the event and the fourth one where you can visit the Polish stand, prepared by the Polish Book Institute in cooperation with the Polish Institute in Rome. The event will run until Monday, May 18.

At the 16 m² stand we will promote among Italian publishers the catalogues “New Books from Poland” and “Polish Books for Children,” as well as the Polish Book Institute’s programmes. The independent local bookstore Libreria Pantaleon will provide readers with access to Polish books translated into Italian.

The fair’s programme includes events with Piotr Karski, as well as Jacek Dehnel and Piotr Tarczyński.

Piotr Karski will promote the Italian editions of the books “W Morze!” and “W Góry” (the latter has just been published; both were issued by Quinto Quarto with translations, respectively, by Giulia Olga Fasoli and Gabriela Rogowska and with the support of the ©Poland Translation Programme). The author of popular children’s books will also run two workshops with primary school children (this coming Thursday and Friday), and on Thursday in the Oval hall in the Montagna room there will be a presentation of his book “W góry!” (Italian title: “Montagna!”).

Jacek Dehnel together with Piotr Tarczyński will promote the Maryla Szymiczkowa series about Professorowa Szczupaczyńska, which is published in Italy by Rizzoli in translations by Barbara Delfino. On Saturday evening a promotional meeting with the author duo will be hosted by Marco Fiocca.

As part of the fair, a Fellowship for foreign publishers is also taking place; this year two representatives of Polish publishing houses qualified: Wydawnictwo Czarne and Znak.

Salone Internazionale del Libro Torino is the largest and most important event on the Italian publishing market. Each year the Turin International Book Fair attracts publishers from the Apennine Peninsula and beyond, who occupy exhibition space of about 125,000 m² across the four pavilions of Lingotto Fiere.
