Poland at the International Book Fair and Svět knihy Literary Festival 2026
The Book Institute is organising a stand together with the Polish Institute in Prague and the bookstore U Wirthů, the only Polish bookstore operating in the Czech Republic.
At our invitation the event will feature Joanna Kuciel-Frydryszak, Karolina Pasternak and Aleksandra Wojtaszek. The Polish Book Institute is also covering the participation costs for cartoonist and comic author Janek Koza, who is appearing in Prague thanks to his publisher, Centrala.
In the Czech Republic books by all four authors have recently been published — Joanna Kuciel-Frydryszak’s Służące do wszystkiego (Absynt, tr. Michael Alexa), Karolina Pasternak’s Holland. Biografia od nowa (Grada, tr. Tereza Vlachová), Aleksandra Wojtaszek’s Fjaka. Sezon na Chorwację (Dokořán, tr. Martin Veselka) and Janek Koza’s Złe sny (Centrala, tr. Barbora Novotná) — all supported by the Polish Book Institute under the ©Poland Translation Programme.
Also presenting their books will be Jakub Ćwiek together with Leoš Kyša (a Czech-Polish anthology of speculative fiction), Marta Galewska-Kustra (the children’s book series about Pucio), Beata Rojek, Błażej Kurowski and Krzysztof Nowak (comics).
The Czech edition of Tadeusz Lubelski’s History of Polish Cinema (Namu, tr. Martina Bořilová, Markéta Fucimanová and Tereza Vlachová), which was also published with support from our Translation Programme, will also be promoted at the event.
In addition, there will be a discussion with current residents of the Visegrád Fund in Prague about culture and politics. Poland will be represented by Anna Wanik, a translator of Czech literature into Polish.
