‘Daj gryza’ in Portuguese

Translation

Aleksandra Mizielińska, Daniel Mizieliński, and Natalia Baranowska’s book Daj gryza. Smakowite historie o jedzeniu (”Take a Bite: Eat Your Way Around the World”) has been published in Brazil. The publication of the translation by Eneida Favre was supported by the Book Institute as part of the ©Poland Translation Programme.

Take a Bite is a grand expedition tracing dishes, spices, and ingredients from five continents in a striking album full of interesting facts and tasty recipes. Each chapter is dedicated to one country. In this book, the reader visits 26 countries from all continents and, in Aleksandra and Daniel Mizielinski’s striking illustrations, sees a Moroccan feast, a floating Vietnamese market, or Argentinian gauchos, learning about the most varied delicacies and their colourful stories.

The Mizielinskis and Baranowska show not only how strongly food is linked to the history, culture, and nature of the country in which it originated, but also how to prepare simple and delicious dishes from all parts of the world.

The translation was published by the by WMF Martins Fontes publishing house.

Previously, the Book Institute also supported the translation of Take a Bite into Traditional Chinese (Taipei, 2023, translated by Yan Ke-Tong).

The application process for the Minister’s Programmes for 2026 has begun.

On October 30th of this year, the application process for the Minister of Culture and National Heritage Programs was announced. The application period will last until December 1st of this year, and its launch in the SOP system will take place soon.

New translations of Polish books

Recently, a number of translations have been published abroad, supported by the Book Institute as part of the ©Poland Translation Programme. Notably, the translation of the award-winning Nike Literary Prize novel 'Ten się śmieje, kto ma zęby' by Zyta Rudzka, brought closer to German-speaking readers by the esteemed translator Lisa Palmes, deserves special attention. The translation was published by Matthes & Seitz Berlin.

Results for the Other Traditions programme in September

The Book Institute has selected additional publications to receive funding from the Other Traditions program. Out of 47 offers submitted by publishers in August, 25 were accepted. A total of 16 publishers will receive support amounting to over 520,000 PLN.
