“Stacja” by Jakub Szamałek Wins an Award in France

Jakub Szamałek has been awarded the Grand Prix de littérature policière 2026, a prestigious French prize for crime fiction, in the foreign-language category for Stacja (“The Station”). The novel by the Polish author was published last October in Kamil Barbarski’s translation by the Métailié publishing house.

In the French-language category, the award went to Canadian author Andrée A. Michaud for her novel Baignades (“Swimming”).

Established in 1948 by critic and novelist Maurice-Bernard Endrèbe, the Grand Prix de littérature policière honours one French-language book and one foreign crime novel translated into French each year. This year’s jury was chaired by Pierre Lebedel.

Métailié had previously published three other novels by Jakub Szamałek: Gdziekolwiek spojrzysz (“Wherever You Look”), Kimkolwiek jesteś (“Whoever You Are”) and Cokolwiek wybierzesz (“Whatever You Choose”). All three were translated by Kamil Barbarski.

Małgorzata Lebda visited the United Kingdom from 14–16 May 2026 on the occasion of the English-language edition of the collection Mer de Glace. The visit was supported by the Polish Institute in London and by the Book Institute as part of the Nonstop — Polish literature abroad programme.

Poland at the Turin International Book Fair

Today the International Book Fair in Turin, the Salone Internazionale del Libro di Torino, begins. This is the thirty-eighth edition of the event and the fourth one where you can visit the Polish stand, prepared by the Polish Book Institute in cooperation with the Polish Institute in Rome. The event will run until Monday, May 18.
